OnlyFans abandons plans to ban porn content after criticism

OnlyFans abandoned plans to ban pornographic content — less than a week after the UK content-making site announced the change, citing the need to comply with banking partner policies.

On Wednesday the company said it had «provided the guarantees needed to support our diverse community authors,» implying that it has entered into new agreements with banks to pay OnlyFans content creators: including those who share sexually explicit material.

«Thank you everyone for letting your voices be heard . «We have received the assurances we need to support our diverse community of creators and have suspended our planned policy change on October 1,» it said.

«OnlyFans is committed to inclusivity, and we will continue to support all creators.»

OnlyFans' decision to ban porn content has infuriated sex workers who rely on the site to support themselves. In desperation, some content makers have already deactivated their OnlyFans pages and moved to other platforms. Founded in 2016, the site claims to have more than 130 million registered users and more than 2 million content creators.

While OnlyFans gained popularity largely due to its policies against pornography, the company sought to reach wider audience. For example, this month it officially launched OFTV: a streaming app that excludes sexually explicit content, in part for distribution on platforms that ban porn. OFTV is available on Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon's Fire TV, Android TV and Samsung Smart TV.
