Contrary to the warnings of the world community, President Donald trump on Wednesday officially announced the recognition by the United States of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. For decades, the previous head of the American state was postponed this question is «indefinitely» in order to maintain this «slim» peace in the middle East, but the current President decided to put an end to the delays.
«I decided that it was time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,» the President said in his address, calling the decision «overdue», but accepted in the interests of the United States. He said the recognition confirmed, and so «obvious» fact, despite the fact that the struggle for the city became a key aspect of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
«It is not that other, as a recognition of reality,» he said.
But that’s not all. Trump also said that the State Department is beginning the process of transferring the U.S. Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem in accordance with the requirements of US law. Other representatives of the administration explained that it will take several years.
The US President also said that his decision will not compromise the geographical and political boundaries of the city, which will still be determined by Israel and Palestine (East and West Jerusalem).
The decision of the American President has not found support from the international community. Even the closest US allies in Europe and Asia questioned the adoption of radical measures.
In the Muslim world trump the decision was received with indignation. In the Palestinian part of Jerusalem and also in Bethlehem protests began. People burn in the streets of American and Israeli flags, portraits of trump. The Islamist movement Hamas calls for new intifada.
The U.S. government has recommended that American diplomats in Jerusalem to avoid areas with increased presence of the military or police, not to cross the Palestinian border town.
