Even the most loyal US allies did not support the decision of President Donald trump, who canceled a ten-year policy of the country in one of the most sensitive issues between Israel and the Palestinians.
Yesterday trump, despite warnings of the world community still recognized Jerusalem as the official capital of Israel. This immediately caused an uproar on the part of most world leaders.
Prime Minister Theresa may expressed complete disagreement with the US President and said:
«We think it (the decision – ed. ed.) is not good for future peace in the region. The British Embassy in Israel is located in tel Aviv, and we don’t plan to move… We urge the US administration to submit detailed proposals for an Israeli-Palestinian settlement».
Saudi Arabia called the move «groundless and irresponsible», at the same time, France and Britain said they did not support this decision.
Pope Francis called for respect for the status quo of Jerusalem. But China and Russia expressed concern about the relative unexpected trump.
The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu , in turn, called the decision «historic» and stated his belief that many countries will follow the US example.
It is worth noting that after the statement trump the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas is beginning a new uprising against Israel. Inside Gaza thousands of Palestinians gathered to protest, chanting «Death to America! Death to the fool Trump!»
It became known that afternoon, Israeli troops clashed with Palestinian protesters on the West Bank of the Jordan river and the Gaza strip.
