Andrew Cuomo, the incumbent head of the state of new York, on April 25 said that will not leave without attention «reckless arrests«, which holds the Immigration and customs police of the USA (Immigration and Customs Enforcement – ISA). «In recent weeks we have seen the inexcusable harshness and the growth of illegal actions. Believe that ICE is breaking the law and jeopardizing public safety» — said during a briefing Cuomo.
The Governor will send to ICE a letter demanding to immediately stop the conduct «immigration raids». In addition, the official announced a ban on the detention of people in state institutions. The legal aid society of new York and the Association of lawyers for provision of legal services upheld the decision of Andrew Cuomo. In their joint statement reads as follows:
«The presence of ICE in the courts undermines our ability to represent clients and protect their constitutional rights. Defendants-immigrants, as witnesses are afraid to appear in court, knowing that ICE indiscriminately targeting anyonewho is not a citizen of the United States.»
Recall that in early April, Immigration and customs police of the USA has conducted hundreds of raids in many cities. The Agency was looking for people violating the rules of stay in America.
