UN: the United States on the border with Mexico has hundreds of immigrants with their children

The UN urged the United States not to separate parents and children on the border with Mexico, where in April a caravan arrived immigrants. This was at the briefing said the press-Secretary of the UN human rights Ravina Shamdasani.

«We are deeply concerned that the intolerant policy of the United States on the southern border has led to the fact that people have been prosecuted, and their children, including very young, were forced to leave them,» said Shamdasani, adding that the practice of separation of families is a serious violation of the rights of the child.

«Although children’s rights are generally respected in the United States is the only country in the world that has not ratified the UN Convention on the rights of the child. We call on States to accede to the Convention. Children should not be detained because of the immigration status of their parents.»

As noted in the UN on the basis of information from various sources, from October 2017, several hundred children were separated from their families.

Most immigrants who come to the border of Mexico and the United States, are refugees from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Often they are fleeing because of the fact that in the country constantly face violence and violation of human rights.

«The US must immediately stop the practice of separating families and to find alternatives that will allow children to stay with their families,» said Ravina Shamdasani.
