The administration of Donald trump initiated the introduction in the questionnaire of the population census 2020 the issue of citizenship. Opponents of this decision argue that immigrants will shy away from the census and the United States will not receive objective data about the actual population. Also biased and can impact on elections in the period 2020-30 years and may give an unfair advantage at the expense of neuchtennomu of the votes of the immigrants who are legalized in this period. Lawsuits against the project were received from new York and other States and cities, as well as several community organizations in April 2018.

District court in Manhattan in January on these grounds has challenged the new questionnaires and agreed to consider them a violation of the administrative procedure Act, the Federal law that establishes requirements for amendments to the rules of the Agency. In making the decision to ban the issue of citizenship in the census, judge Furman noted that «hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people would remain without consideration in the census, if it included a question on citizenship».

Today, judges of the Supreme court in a brief order granted the request of the White house to listen to her appeal to the ruling of the district judge of the United States Jesse Furman of 15 January in Manhattan before the lower appellate court considered the case. Hearings will be held in late April, and a decision will be made by the end of June.
