The Governor of Mississippi plans to close the only abortion clinic in the state for the duration of the quarantine

The only abortion clinic in Mississippi need to stop working during the quarantine, because of a temporary ban on scheduled operations in the state. About it on Tuesday was declared by the Governor of Mississippi Tate Reeves.

«We will take all necessary steps to protect not only the lives of unborn children, but also the lives of those who may be infected with a virus.» said Reeves at a press conference.

The state Department of health has ordered to stop elective surgery in preparation for the expected influx of patients with the coronavirus. Ohio and Texas also joined the suspension of operation of abortion clinics. However, health officer of Mississippi Dr. Thomas Dobbs said that he is not ready to confirm that the abortion will be temporarily discontinued.

«I know nothing about it.» said Dobbs at the same press conference. «And before I make any comments, I think we need a little more time to study the situation.»

According to Fox News, a 45-year-old Reeves, a Republican, previously served as Vice-Governor and the Treasurer of the state, is as Governor his first term. He said that he still aims in order to ban abortion in the state.

«We’re doing everything in our power, and for many years to make Mississippi the safest place in America for the unborn children.» said Reeves.

On Tuesday, a clinic was opened with the Women’s health organization of Jackson, dubbed «the Pink house» because of the characteristic color of the exterior walls. It is reported that the clinic was a group of protesters campaigning against abortion. Laura Duran, President of Pro-Life Mississippi, says that the protesters are only concerned about the risk of infection COVID-19.
