Today Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the appointment of the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the United States – Anatoly Antonov.
The second position that Antonov will take part, will be as Permanent observer of Russian Federation at the Organization of American States in Washington. This is the official website of the President of Russia.
Its predecessor was Sergey Kislyak, who returned from Washington last month, having worked in the us capital for nine years.
Anatoly Antonov, who in December 2016 up to the present time was one of the Vice-Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Sergei Lavrov), in may was approved in his new position with the international Affairs Committee of the upper house of the Russian Parliament – the Federation Council.
In July, after the Washington meeting, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov and Deputy Secretary of State for political Affairs Thomas Shannon, the us has given prior consent (the approval) for the appointment of a new Ambassador Antonov, write «Izvestia».
As reported by «Kommersant», the Kremlin passed a decision on consideration of the candidacy of Antonova, a supporter of the hard line against the United States, even before the results of the presidential elections in the United States.
The Russian authorities considered that, most likely, the victory of Hillary Clinton, and therefore, relations between States will remain tense. And despite the fact that the President was Donald trump, a decision about Antonov remained in force.
Anatoly Antonov will travel to Washington August 31 to September 1 to begin work.
