Poll: most Americans recognized the racism a «big problem»

A new survey by the Pew Research Center showed that today far more Americans call racism a «big problem» in the United States. In August 2017, 58% said that racism is a big problem. Compared to 41% in September 1995 and 50% in July 2015 — the dynamics are obvious. Only between 2011 and 2017, the percentage of Americans define racism as a serious, doubled.

The survey research center was conducted from 15 to 21 August. During this time it was attended by nearly 1,900 people.

The graphs of the relationship between Americans and their party affiliation, skin color, age and education. It turned out that from year to year, Democrats are more likely to say that racism is a big problem in the United States. Republicans are less inclined to talk about it. Among the representatives of different races: 81% of African Americans concerned about the serious racial discrimination. And now most white Americans regard it as a big problem.

The survey was conducted several days after the event in Charlottesville, Virginia. The conflict between white nationalists and their ideological opponents, attracted the attention of the media across the country. The question is whether there is a continuing trend of growth in the number of people concerned about racism. But it is obvious that more and more Americans are thinking about this problem.
