More on one Columbus mocked vandals: now in Queens

Within two days is already the second monument to Columbus in new York was attacked by vandals. The day before yesterday night, unknown persons broke a bronze bust of Christopher Columbus, which stood in the Park of the city of Yonkers, new York.

And yesterday, vandals got to Columbus in Astoria, Queens. The blue paint on it was written: «do Not honor the genocide.» Attempts to erase the paint failed.

Channel ABC7 interviewed several passers-by in the Columbus Triangle Park, where the monument is located, what they think about what happened.

«It’s against America. Nobody did this two weeks ago», — says a local resident, Adrianna.

«He came to open the new world, and so now he gets bullied,» adds Joe Dipietro.

But some agree if not vandalism, then the fact that the statue must be removed.

«We blindly praise people like Christopher Columbus, but most do not even know the true story behind them,» said one. «He is a murderer and a maniac who have committed genocide,» another echoes.

Was of opinion that it is not so simple.

«Go to other monuments, you’ll learn that each personality has its good and bad history.»

«This has to stop. I mean: what’s next: the mount Rushmore?», says Joe Dipietro.

We will remind, the mayor of new York bill de Blasio convened a Commission, which in three months will have to make a list of monuments considered to be «controversial».
