Newborn son Ashley Hautzenroeder miraculously managed to survive after mother tried to flush it down the toilet and then thrown in the trash. Despite the gravity of the crime, 24-year-old resident of Davenport, Iowa will not sit in jail — on Friday the court sentenced her to 5 years of conditional imprisonment.

According to the materials of the case, the act Hautzenroeder was caused by post-traumatic stress disorder.

On may 8 last year the woman gave birth in a bathroom clinic at the University of Iowa. She claims she never knew about her pregnancy. In full confidence that the boy was born dead, she tried to flush it down the toilet. The attempt was not successful, and then Hautzenroeder wrapped the baby in a pillowcase and threw it in the trash.

Soon the boy found the staff at the hospital — luckily he was still alive.

As it turned out, a year before the incident, the defendant suffered psychological trauma. Her first daughter was in the ICU with a serious heart condition and spent a whole year there. The woman was unable to cope with stress, so don’t want to face my second pregnancy.
