The inhabitants of some Islands of the Florida Keys today, September 12, was allowed to return home.

Corey Smith, a resident of Key Largo, told the Associated Press that the island has no electricity, almost no gas, closed supermarkets and blocked some roads.

«They bump people back without any resources,» said Corey. «It’s a little too fast.»

According to preliminary estimates, more than 13 million Florida residents were without electricity (that’s two-thirds of the state’s population).

More than 180 thousand people took refuge in shelters throughout the state. Authorities say it would take several weeks to fully restore electricity.

«I know that all of our staff, especially to Keys, it will go a long way,» said the Governor of Florida, Rick Scott.
