New York will soon be lit up with white light

Decades of city streets, parks and the road was illuminated by the sodium lamp of high pressure. A light source was more cheap and practical alternative to the previous lamps, which use mercury vapor, which city officials have sent to the tube rest in the 70-ies. But time does not stand still, and now it’s time for sodium lamps to give way to young.

In 2009, mayor Michael Bloomberg initiated a pilot program to replace the old sodium lamps with new led lights in some parts of Central Park and the FDR Drive. This idea to everyone’s liking, and after 8 years, it’s time to adapt LED lights to illuminate all five boroughs of the city.

But the new lights will Shine your way: the usual warm yellow color, which dispersed the darkness of the night the last 40 years, will be replaced by white lights. The reason that prompted city officials to finally transform the city at night is very simple — LED lights are more energy efficient and last longerthan their sodium counterparts. Not only does this save money, allocated for the maintenance of city lights, will significantly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, but, as proponents of the initiatives complicate the lives of the criminals, because to pull off mischief on brightly lit streets is not easy.

According to data published by the Department of transportation, new Yorkers can expect almost simultaneous transition to the new lights already in the next year. Brooklyn is already partially touched by the wave of updates: approximately 396 000 lights, which is the responsibility of the Department, 60,000 were replaced with led lights.
