White house not ready to decide the fate of the «dreamers»

The assistant Minister for internal security on the border, immigration and trade policy Michael Daugherty told Congress on Tuesday that the new law is «rationally» determined the conditions for obtaining citizenship for illegal immigrants who came to the United States children.

«Under the bill these people will be able to stay in the country legally and obtain citizenship,» said Daugherty, commenting on submitted by senators SUCCEED Act, which was supposed to replace the original DREAM Act.

Recall that in last month, trump closed the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy), which allowed more than 800,000 so-called «dreamers» to legally stay and work in the United States. The program helped young people who were brought by parents to U.S. illegally as children, and since living in the country. In the presidential Administration believe that the introduction of such a policy Barack Obama was exceeding his constitutional powers. Closing the program caused a storm of protests across the country.

«So the President believes that they should be allowed to stay?», — summed up the Doherty Senator John Kennedy.

«Yes, the President would work with Congress on a solution to this issue,» said Daugherty, refusing to tell the conditions under which «dreamers» may be permitted to remain in the country.

During congressional hearings Daugherty spoke about the priorities of the immigration policy of the presidential administration. They include a more thorough border control, reducing the visa delays, the reform of the procedure for obtaining a non-immigrant business visas and establishing a system which encourages the immigration of skilled professionals. He said that the administration also wants to deport people who came to the USA illegally and are not seeking asylum.

Literally a few hours later the Department of homeland security and the White house has stated that the said Doherty is not unfounded and does not reflect the opinion of the President.

The position of Donald trump regarding the «dreamers» remains unclear. Last month, the President, after talking with the Democrats, said that «not considering the question of citizenship» «dreamers.» But Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer say the opposite – they claim that during the meeting, trump has agreed to consider a bipartisan bill that, among other things, provides for the possibility of obtaining citizenship.

At the same time, as reported by Reuters, the majority leader of the house of representatives Kevin McCarthy, who had lunch Monday with trump and other Republicans asked the President a question about Pelosi and Schumer statement. The President responded that «what I said to Nancy, left the meeting differs from what was discussed».

Any comments about the future «dreamers» at the White house do not give.
