George Soros increased the capital of its charitable Foundation by $18 billion

George Soros gave $18 billion to his charitable Foundation «open society». This is a large part of his fortune, which Forbes magazine estimated at $25.2 billion.

New York Times reports that the famous financier realized one of the largest in the history of the transfer of funds ever made by a private sponsor in favor of one organization. Before this step «open society» had $940,7 millions, and now it can rightly be called the second largest charitable structure in the US after the bill and Melinda gates Foundation, the capital of which is about $34.6 billion.

87-year-old investor and philanthropist of Hungarian origin, founded the «open society Foundation» in 1979. Today the organization has affiliates in more than 30 countries. The main directions of its activity — the struggle for human rights, assistance to immigrants, development of education, healthcare, and civic initiatives.

According to the web site of the Fund, over the past 30 years on these purposes it has been allocated $14 billion.

As a trader, George Soros has gained worldwide fame in 1992 after the so-called Black Friday — the day he managed to earn more than $1 billion on a sharp collapse of the pound sterling. Later he was suspected of involvement in the event is owned by the Fund «quantum» allegedly bought the British currency in small batches, and then simultaneously exchanged a considerable sum on German marks. This assumption has no hard evidence.

In recent years, Soros became a target of criticism by politicians from the Republican party and their supporters because of the support of democratic forces. According to the Washington Times, ahead of presidential elections in the USA, «open society Foundation» donated $6 million on the campaign, Clinton.
