Recall that in this year’s parade has become controversial due to the fact that the organizers wanted to name it in honor of Oscar Lopez Rivera , a leader of the Armed forces of national liberation (FALN) of Puerto Rico. FALN has claimed responsibility for more than 100 bombings across the country in the 1970-ies and 80-ies.
Because of this support of the parade refused many sponsors from participating in it and refused the state’s Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Later it became known that he 74-year-old Oscar Rivera urged the organizers not to devote the parade to him. Rivera said take part in the parade, but as a «simple Puerto Rican grandpa.»
