Pope: «Fake news — a very grave sin»

Pope Francis calls on journalists to report only accurate, full and correct information, rather than unilateral data or «old news». The Pontiff criticized the work of journalists who are too dramatized old scandals and presented fake news as sensationalism. The Pope said that it is «a great sin», which causes pain to the journalist and others.

The Pontiff intends to dedicate the theme of «fake news,» his forthcoming annual address to the faithful. He argues that the mission carried out by journalists, is one of the most «fundamental» in the democratic community. But in this case, said the head of the Church, information needs to be verified, accurate and truthful, not the outdated, overgrown new conjectures and fabrications.

Pope: «Fake news — a very grave sin»

The Guardian quotes the Pope: «You shall not commit «sins of speaking»: to mislead or to illuminate only one side of the problem, spread slander, making her a sensation, or slander in the form of old news, the events which have long passed, but that only highlights today.»
