A special Department of the new York police Department (NYPD) engaged in the investigation of rape, is unable to ensure the quality of consideration of applications of citizens. In particular, the proceedings against the media Mogul Harvey Weinstein has revealed that due to the less set a permanent state police Department cannot do their job efficiently. As a comparison, the following statistics: in 2017 for the investigation 282 murders were involved 101 detective in the NYPD. Over the same period, more than 5 thousand victims of rape and harassment was only considered 67 of detectives of the unit mentioned above. In practice, this means that the lack of a professional detective forces the Department to focus on high profile cases, while the less important applications are treated in local police stations. And, as a rule, their employees have less experience and training which affects the quality of investigations.
Conducted by members of the DOI investigation revealed that from 2009 the number of cases in the area of sexual crimes has increased by 65%. But while the number of special division of the NYPD from the same period have remained virtually unchanged. Relevant conclusions were made in the analysis of internal documents and through interviews with former employees of the Department and victims of sexual harassment.
In its report, the Department recommended that the NYPD is doubling the staff of the Department for investigation of rape and provide better investigation of claims of citizens.
