Governors Island is a great place to relax and have a great time outdoors. But in case visitors get hungry, all that they can count on is the van street food or what they brought with them.

But luckily for visitors to the island it is light times. Island Oyster, giant oyster bar, has opened in the holiday weekend not far from the ferry station.

Bar is the new brainchild of the creators of the Grand Banks, which are also planning to open a floating Pilot bar on Pier 6 later this summer. Oyster Island – the first official restaurant on the island, Governors Island (at least in its current incarnation). Guests can enjoy the open area for 600 people, which offers a magnificent view on downtown Manhattan and new York Harbor.

One of the owners, Alex Pincus told that the bar is dominated by aquatic themes.
