A large leakage of sewage has led to significant pollution of the Hudson river below the city of Troy, new York. 14 days in the pond were about 4 million gallons (15 million liters) of sewage.

The main cause of the leak heavy rainfall that hit the region in the last 2 weeks. Leaks began on June 23 in Troy and nearby Albany. The Sewerage system of both cities is designed to combine storm water and domestic wastewater during heavy rains, allowing them to drain into the river.

Due to the criminal negligence of officials of Albany and Troy local population and the inhabitants located down the river new York used dirty water, unaware of the environmental disaster.

By law, the authorities must immediately report the incident to the Department of environmental protection, but has not fulfilled this requirement. Leadership Albany has filed a notification only on 7 July, and the mayor of Troy and not able to provide accurate data on discharge of sewage into the river.

Cities, violators face a fine of $37 500 for each day of delay in submitting the information.
