Missile defense, the United States successfully detected, tracked and destroyed a ballistic missile of the enemy.
According to the U.S. Agency for missile defense (MDA), a system called THAADwhich is based in Alaska, intercepted and destroyed the target – a medium-range missile, which was launched yesterday, Monday, in the evening to the North of Hawaii.
«I am extremely proud of the team that carried out the test,» said Lieutenant General MDA Sam greaves. «This is another demonstration of the capabilities of the THAAD system and its ability to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles. THAAD continues to protect our citizens, our military and our allies against growing threats,» added greaves.
This is the 14th successful intercept of the THAAD system, which uses technology to destroy targets at high altitudes.
Official representative of the Ministry of defense said that the test is not due to the fact that just a few days ago North Korea announced their successful test of an Intercontinental ballistic missile.
