American Bakari Henderson was killed by a group of 15 people in the quarrel which has begun from-for a selfie in one of the bars on a Greek island.
«The conflict arose after Henderson, who was on vacation with his friends, asked for a photo with the waitress. The argument quickly escalated into a massacre with the participation of other visitors and two employees of the bar,» he told The Washington Post the press-Secretary of police of Greece Theodoros Chronopoulos. He also added that the surveillance cameras seen as a 22-year-old graduate of the University of Arizona was beaten in 30 seconds.
Death was caused by a blow to the head.
Nine people were arrested. They are charged with premeditated murder.
The fight happened during a bar party. One of the suspects, 33-year-old Serb came into dispute with the waitress for a selfie. He also hit Henderson, who in turn broke a beer bottle on the table and other visitors. Soon 10-15 people chased Henderson and caught him. After beating the boy, they left him lying on the ground.
The police report about the incident, which occurred early Friday morning at a bar in Laganas, tourist village on the island of Zakynthos, is different from the story of the friends of the Henderson. They say that he was just doing some own business, when the suspects attacked him.
Daniel brown, one of three friends who were on the island together with Henderson, told ABC News that they no one was talking when the suspect started the fight. He also said that as soon as the attackers left the bar, he had Henderson first aid, then took him to the hospital.
Travis Jenkins added that Henderson was not the man who could fight. «He’s always been one of those who solved the problems of the world.»
John Gramlich, a childhood friend Handiena, I agree with these words : «Aggression or incitement to conflict — this is not like him. He was always the guy that calmed people,» he told the Associated Press.
Jean Richardson, aunt Henderson, told The Post that they received no details from investigators about what happened.
The authorities informed that two of the suspects, 34-year-old bartender from Greece and 32-year-old security guard, a British national of Serbian origin, was immediately arrested. Six other Serbs in age from 18 to 25 years — were arrested after being identified by video surveillance cameras, and the police raided the hotel where they were staying.
Another suspect, 33-year-old Serb, who, as claimed by the police, and started the fight, were arrested on Tuesday. This was told Chronopoulos.
It is unknown whether the suspects know each other, but Chronopoulos suggested that the waitress probably knows some of them. He also added that the friends of Henderson in a fight did not participate.
Friends of Henderson has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the funeral and costs associated with transporting the body home. By noon Tuesday already raised more than $45,000.
The President of Arizona state University Robert Robbins said everything was «shocked and saddened» by the death of Henderson: «Our hearts and prayers are with his friends and family. I can only imagine the deep sense of loss that they experience in connection with his death. said Robbins. «It’s always a tragedy when a young life is snuffed out before it began.»
