Dog owners in new York were furious because of a little-known law that prohibits walking dogs for money.
The Department of Health prohibits to take money for the care of animals outside of the kennels. Services Department has warned users of the popular app on services dog Rover, that those breaking the law.
The new code prohibits the keeping, feeding, grooming for compensation without a special license. The problem lies in the fact that these licenses are not issued to individuals.
General counsel of the Department of health Thomas Merrill in October last year sent a letter to the site DogVacay.com which was recently purchased by Rover, warning that its users are breaking the law. The letter asked to show the license of dogsitter. But the administration application requirements are not fulfilled.
No sanctions, this was not followed, although in November and December at least two residents of the apartments were punished for keeping Pets without permission. The penalty is $1,000.
«If your 14-year-old works part-time, looking after someone else’s cat — he’s breaking the law», — said the representative of Rover John Lapham. «Now it is easier to attach a child than a pet. What’s the point?».
Pet owners easier and cheaper to find someone who will take the time of their Pets to her home than to send them to the kennel where animals will be a day to sit in a cage, according to Lapham.
The application was 95,000 owners of Pets and 9,000 of dogsitters who have earned over the past year about $4.1 million.
Press Secretary of the Department of health Julian Martinez stated that the ban is justified concern about the health of people:
«In the name of health and safety of the animals and population Health Code of new York requires that certain businesses have received the permission of the Department, and comply with certain rules. We will check the kennels to make sure animals were not in danger».
However, the Chairman of the Committee city Council on health Corey Johnson was very surprised that the private animals outside of the law. She is going to revise this law to remove the ban.
