Chicago got the green light to again use the so-called «dry ice» in the fight against rats.

This experiment began in August 2016, but later stopped because dry ice was not yet included on the Agency for environmental protection to the list of allowed drugs to combat rodents.

Now, city officials stated that the use of dry ice is allowed.

Dry ice is carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide) in the solid state, externally it resembles ice, so it is called. It is spread in the holes at room temperature it turns into gas, and rat choke.

But along with this, Chicago also decided to try a new, non-lethal and more humane method of rodent control.

As reported by CBS2, the city will use a bait called ContraPest.

After several months of use of such bait rats lose their ability to reproduce. Contraceptive is not lethal, does not affect people, other animals besides rats, and is considered cost-effective.
The new method will initially be tested at the city station of an overload of debris at 34th in Lawndale.

Complaints about rats in Chicago increased compared to last year by 30%. Experts believe that this is due to the very mild winter.
