25-year-old resident of the city of Waukegan, state of Illinois, sentenced to 50 years in prison.
According to the New York Post, defendant — Roberto Romero – pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend in 2015.
On that day, Romero several times shot to the face 33-year-old of Elpidia muñoz-Garcia, when it was in the restaurant with my 9 year old daughter. County judge of Lake County Daniel Sans called it «a senseless penalty.»
Romero’s lawyer, jed stone, insisted on a 30-year prison term, arguing that Romero is mentally illand he was diagnosed with paranoid syndrome and schizophrenia. Prosecutors also noted that Roberto Romero was declared sane and amenable.
In the end, the judge agreed with the arguments of the prosecution, now, Romero will go to jail for half a century.
