School calendars you want to remove the holidays

Wednesday, August 23, the website of the school district Levittown published the announcement that the school will no longer identify the holidays in their printed calendars.

As reported Newsday.com the Head of public schools Levittown Tony MacDonald said in a statement that «due to the number of holidays and the fact that our schools during the holidays some are open and some are closed, it was decided to remove the mention of the holiday calendars.»

Instead, the calendars will just be days when school will not work. According to MacDonald, the holidays will still be listed in the online version of the calendar.

Levittown is not the only area where they wanted to give up the holidays in calendars. The Department of education in Southampton in 2016-17, also printed calendars, which did not indicate the names of the holidays. But in the 2017-2018 year, they returned to the old format.

Initially, the question arose from the debates around Columbus Day, when some activists said that the great Explorer and Europeans in General have become a direct and indirect cause of the deaths of thousands of native Americans and don’t deserve any celebrations.

However, the parents of many students remained dissatisfied with these reforms.
In social networks also considered the decision of the leadership of the schools was politically motivated.
In response, McDonald stated that this opinion is erroneous, and in schools there is no political motive and it has nothing to do with the recent events.
«The decision was made in June, at a meeting of the public Council,» she says, adding that removing holidays from the calendar will also provide more space for school activities. «This is the only reason we came to this decision.»
