Passengers will be able to specify a third gender when booking tickets

Trade Association American carriers А4А and the international air transport Association adopted a new standard for booking tickets. Passengers who do not identify as men or women, will be able to specify other options of sex. The decision is a recommendation, but the key US airlines have already confirmed that they are preparing to implement this proposal.

A mandatory requirement of gender identity was introduced after 9/11 in the interest of safety. Then, TSA has established a program of verification, which is a list of passengers before their arrival at the airport on the basis of the reservation. In airlines believe that forcing customers to shape the system of the breast is an aggressive, discriminatory measure, passengers should be able to specify «other.»

«US airlines every day work hard to meet the needs of all travelers while ensuring safe, reliable and enjoyable flight,» — said in a statement А4А.

Specific options remain at the discretion of the airlines. United Airlines, for example, plans in addition to traditional options M (ale) and F (emale), add U (not disclosed) or X (unspecified). Other carriers talk about the options of MX in any case options will be more than two.

Delta Airlines is not included in A4A also working on adding non-binary gender options for its customers.

«Through the ongoing efforts of the Delta to meet the needs of different customers, we plan to offer nonbinary gender option in the booking process», — reads the statement of the airline.

Representatives of the LGBT community believe this decision is progressive and humane. Arli Christian from the National center for transgender equality strongly supports the aviators: «A4A applauds NCTE for adding gender options that reflect the diversity of their passengers.»
