Scientists believe that in 60 years the climate of new York will be more like Arkansas

Unpleasant forecast was voiced by the staff of the research Centre for the environment at the University of Maryland (University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science – UMCES) for residents of the state of new York.

According to them, if the climate pollution will continue with the current pace, then after 60 years, the region is waiting for the global changes. Weather conditions in new York will be similar to the current situation in Arkansas. Similar changes are in store for other regions of the country.

In order to build the model of the published forecast, the study’s lead author Matt Fitzpatrick, Professor of ecology at UMCES, used 12 different variables for 540 cities in the USA and Canada.

After that, the scientist has integrated them in 2 scenarios relating to climate change, and created 27 computer models. So Dr. Fitzpatrick has identified the towns and regions that will suffer most from climate change. The picture was unpleasant.

The study’s author notes that in the coming years, its emissions are not reduced, then by 2080 the mu weather in new York will resemble the current situation in Arkansas city. In other words the inhabitants of the metropolis waiting for the increase in the number of natural disasters, more hot summers and a less wet winter. The snow will become a rarity for new Yorkers.

These changes will impact on other settlements. In particular, the climate of Chicago will be more like Kansas city, the fourth largest U.S. city – San Francisco- waiting for comparison with southern California. The most significant changes will occur in the village of Wasilla located in Alaska. They will lead to the fact that the local population will feel the residents of Eastern Wisconsin.

According to scientists from UMCES, there is also another scenario. It is much less noticeable climate change. However, it is necessary to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Otherwise, future Americans will have to face enormous challenges.
