During a visit to Ukraine, the US defence Secretary Jim Mattis said he began to reconsider the issue of sending weapons to Ukraine, which was vetoed by the previous President of America Barack Obama.
Today during the summit of BRICS , Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the decision of the United States about the supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine would fuel the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and may encourage Pro-Russian separatists to expand their presence.
Putin stressed that «there are international rules and approaches: the supply of arms to the conflict zone is not going to favor peace, but only aggravates the situation.»
«If it happens in this case, fundamentally this decision will not change the situation, generally does not affect the change in the situation, but the number of victims can certainly increase,» – said the President of the Russian Federation.
He focused on the fact that the separatists can force «in other conflict zones that are sensitive for those who are creating problems for them.»
The Russian head of state believes that the presence of peacekeepers of the UN in the Donbas would benefit the resolution of the conflict in the East of Ukraine and asked the Russian foreign Ministry to submit an appropriate draft resolution for consideration by the UN security Council. He stressed that this should be done solely to protect employees of the OSCE, who are in the conflict zone.
