A prisoner who escaped from prison a month later, sent back a postcard: «greetings from Thailand»

After escaping from a Belgian prison in Turnhout former prisoner Walid Sekkaki mocking the authorities of the institution, sending a postcard, signed: «greetings from Thailand».

Sekkaki and four other inmates escaped from prison on 19 December 2019, after moving through the outer wall and sat in the car, which was waiting on a nearby street.

The three fugitives were caught the next day, but police were unable to find Sekkaki, and this week in jail received a letter. In the envelope was a prison Sekkaki icon, and a postcard with the caption: «greetings from Thailand».

Sekkaki was arrested in January 2017, after police found in his car 25 000 tablets of ecstasy. At that time the man already wanted for questioning over a shooting incident.

He was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment. However, Sakaki was an extra motivation for escaping from prison. He was wanted in his home country, Morocco, in connection with drug trafficking. Belgium wanted to give him, and he was waiting for the decision on extradition.

The most famous escape Ashraf Sekkaki occurred in 2009, when his accomplices seized a sightseeing helicopter and at gunpoint forced the pilot to land in the yard of a prison near Bruges. The helicopter picked up Ashraf Sekkaki and two other prisoners, then sat in a neighbouring town, where accomplices stole a car, robbed a service station and headed for the coast. Ashraf Sekkaki caught in his native Morocco two weeks later.

Now he remains in prison in Morocco, serving a 12-year term of imprisonment. The third brother, Nasr Edinne also believed to be involved in criminal activity.
