Gorbachev wants trump and Putin met at the highest level

86-year-old, first and last President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev believes that Trump and Putin need to meet and discuss the issues of nuclear disarmament and stability in the world.

He believes that it should be a «full summit» between the United States and Russia, the same as was in Reykjavik at the end of the cold war.

Gorbachev wants trump and Putin met at the highest level

«I urge you to prepare and conduct a full-fledged, full-format Russian-American summit meeting. Absolutely crazy that the presidents of the nuclear powers to meet somewhere on the sidelines — and was found only once! We hope that the process of preparation of this summit is still underway.»

Gorbachev and Reagan signed the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles in 1987. After the collapse of the USSR, Russia assumed these obligations.

Gorbachev believes that the deterioration of relations between the US and Russia, after the scandal interference in election 2016, jeopardising the agreement and represents a danger to the maintenance of stability and peace.
Both sides have repeatedly filed mutual accusations of breach of contract.

«If deterrence of nuclear weapons will collapse, and this may lead to the collapse of the Treaty RSMN, the consequences will be catastrophic,» wrote Gorbachev in an address to the two presidents, which was published in The Washington Post and Russian newspaper on October 11.

«In any case, it is important to make the first move. At the time, the first step in a difficult but necessary process of ridding the world of nuclear weapons has been the Treaty of 1987. Now there are two interrelated tasks: to prevent the collapse of the system «nuclear armaments» and to reverse the deterioration of Russian-American relations. You need to make the first move!»
