Due storm Alberto in North Carolina killed two journalists

The Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper urged state residents to exercise caution as bad weather, which brought storm Alberto, has caused the deaths of two journalists on the their car fell the tree.

The staff of the news channel WYFF-TV journalist Mike McCormick and photographer Aaron Smeltzer — died on Monday, may 28. «Two journalists who made the report about this storm, tragically died, and we mourn with their families, friends and colleagues, the Governor said Cooper. — North Carolina needs to take seriously Alberto. I encourage everyone to closely monitor forecasts, alerts and road conditions, especially in the Western part of the state where predicted even more heavy rain.»

Mike McCormick and Aaron Smeltzer was driving on highway 176 near the town of Trion, when a large tree fell on their SUV. The journalists were killed on the spot.

According to the chief of police Triona Jeffrey Tennant, reporters just held an interview with him, he advised them to be careful, they responded in kind. «Literally ten minutes later we got a call about the accident,» said Tennant.

Because of heavy rains in the region also remains the risk of landslides. On may 19 they have already killed a woman.
