A mother from Arkansas bought 1500 pairs of shoes for schoolchildren

A mother from Arkansas bought all the shoes in Payless store, before it closes, to donate to needy children before the start of the school year.

Carrie Jernigan, mother of three children, told Fox News that he bought nearly 1,500 pairs of shoes. She did not say how much it paid, but receipt shows that she has saved about $21,000.

«I often visit schools, and in the area where I live, a very high level of poverty,» said Jernigan, President of the school Board of Alma. The town is located between Fayetteville and Fort Smith.

«My first thought was to put as many children as possible. Many children go to school in last year’s shoes, not being able to get a new one», she added.

A huge purchase was made in may after while shopping with the kids, one of the daughters Jernigan asked to buy a pair of shoes for her classmates.

Jernigan jokingly asked the seller how much it would cost to buy all the shoes in the store. «The next thing I knew, the regional Manager calls me and asks if I really want to buy the whole store», — she wrote on his page on Facebook last Monday.

«In the end we made a deal on the remaining shoes, which were about 400 pairs», — she wrote.

Jernigan said the next day she returned to the shop to put all the shoes in the box, and while she was there, the store employees found out that came a new delivery of hundreds of new shoes. She wrote that her children «just» said that can’t just abandon these shoes.

The woman told the children «We will open some boxes, and if it is children’s shoes, we will try to redeem her.» They begin to open the box in the back of the store and almost all the boxes were children’s shoes.

Jernigan wrote that they planned to distribute the shoes before school starts.

She added that «the response has been incredible», when local businesses, churches and residents also wanted to hold the event in the theme of «Back to school», where hundreds of students and their families handed out hundreds of pairs of shoes and other belongings, including backpacks and school supplies. In another post on Facebook on Saturday, Jernigan wrote: «I have received nearly 200 messages only from local moms and dads, which said that they were going to get my shoes and get there as early as possible to make sure we get at least one».

She added: «many in our community desperately need new shoes to send their kids back to school. If you could see all of their posts, it would break you heart.»

Jernigan said the man who wanted to remain anonymous, handed her $ 1000 and told her, «just spend it on those kids!»

Thanks to this generous donation, and others she was able to buy another 250 pairs of shoes and socks to distribute them at the event next month. Jernigan said that people donated an additional $3000.
