Live communication is more important than virtual

The campaign is called «Phone off. Fun On(the Phone is off. The fun is on.»), and it began not just. According to a survey of 302 parents conducted by McDonald’s in Singapore, the majority of respondents, namely 98%, say they use their phone during leisure activities with family or friends. More than two thirds of them admit the use of smartphones during meals. Most parents also responded that their children are not released from the hands of phones during family gatherings.

The initiative is «Phone off. Fun On» aims to bring people together and help them socialize more. And although the campaign is primarily focused on families, this service is available to all visitors of the network, in whose company they were.

According to a survey published earlier this year, about 70% of 12-year-old Singapore residents constantly use the phone. They spend an average of 6.5 hours daily on their electronic devices. It’s fair to say that in America the situation is not too different. Teenagers and young people obsessed with their phones, because they are no longer a device only for mobile communications.

An old idea in a new way

The idea is to get rid of the gadgets on time is not new. In restaurants around the world are even of a game, when all members of a large company put the phones in a drawer, and the one who will give in first and take your device will be forced to pay the entire bill (of course, there are exceptions that allow you to use the phone, for example, an emergency or a call from a family member).

In addition, one restaurant in the South of France and forbidden to use your mobile phone. The waiters are keenly watching the observance of this rule. They whistle and showing a yellow card when someone is caught red-handed.

The leadership of McDonald’s declares that the campaign in Singapore is a pilot project, and its fate will depend on feedback from customers. If the public will accept the idea of a positive, it can spread in the network around the world.
