The U.S. wants to stop issuing startup visas that allow you to stay in the country up to 5 years

DHS (Department of Homeland Security – DHS) wants to stop issuing so-called start-up visas, which allow foreign entrepreneurs to be up to 5 years in the country for the development of their business.

The law is called «Rules for entrepreneurs international» (International Entrepreneur Rule), which was initiated by the Obama administration, to be under threat. Only recently, in December 2017 – in the Service of citizenship and US immigration services (USCIS) began to accept applications for startup visa under the new rules, as the DHS announced its intention to stop issuing such visas.

Many young businessmen from other countries have already used the chance to realize itself in the United States. For example, in Silicon valley , about half of startup founders are immigrants.

But, according to the Ministry, the rule does not provide for «adequate protection for American workers and investors and is not an appropriate tool to attract and retain international entrepreneurs.» In DHS emphasize that the decision is made individually for each individual case and depends on the Secretary of the Ministry, which determines whether the business of the applicant to any Humanities or social benefits.

The DHS proposal will be published Tuesday, may 29 – this day will start a 30-day period for public comment.

This news comes on the same day, when the Department says it plans to raise 15 thousand seasonal workers in U.S. businesses at risk. Internal security Minister Kirsten Nielsen stressed that this step must compensate for problems with the visa program H-2B, which «unintentionally harm American businesses.»
