«RUSAL» Oleg Deripaska built the largest US aluminum plant

RUSAL is making its first investment in the United States since Washington lifted sanctions with the Russian aluminum giant.

Russian «RUSAL» has teamed up with American company Braidy Industries to build a plant in Kentucky.

The world’s largest producer of aluminium outside of China announced the deal in three months after was excluded from the sanctions list. He has already resumed shipments to the U.S. market.
The US imposed sanctions against RUSAL and its owner Oleg Deripaska in April 2018. Sanctions against «Rusala» and its parent company, En+ was cancelled in January 2019, when Deripaska has reduced its stake in the company after several months of negotiations.

RUSAL and manufacturer of aluminum alloys Braidy will establish a joint plant for the production of aluminum rolled products for the automotive industry in the USA.

The Wall Street Journal notes that the plant Atlas will be the first aluminum smelter in the United States for the past 37 years and the largest company for the production of rolling aluminum in the United States.

The launch of the new plant is planned for 2020 in Ashland (Kentucky). The power plant will be 500 thousand tons of hot rolled steel and 300 thousand tons of finished products cold-rolled products per year.

The Russian company intends to invest $200 million in the plant and to supply about 2 million tons of low carbon aluminum in 10 years for about $500 million a year.
