A great fire in Lower Manhattan: 11 firefighters injured

Yesterday around 18:30 at the restaurant located on the ground floor of a five storey building in Manhattan’s Tribeca caught fire, which quickly spread to the roof. In the sky, rose a column of thick black smoke.

To deal with massive flames came 50 fire brigades, that is about 200 people. To vent the building, they had to break 80 Windows.

After three and a half hours the fire was extinguished. Weather sided fire-fighters: cool air helped to quickly deal with the flames.

Lucky the fire never reached the basement. Otherwise trouble is likely not to pass: there is a theory that there are stored munitions. But firefighters have not yet confirmed this assumption.

However, 11 employees of the fire service received various injuries, including lacerations. They were taken to the Bellevue hospital.

The cause of the fire is still unclear. According to firefighters, the fire quickly rose up due to the fact that between floors was void.
