Mother with two children miraculously managed to survive during a hurricane Maria, despite the fact that they were on the ship. Twenty-foot waves flipped the ship, but the family was able to escape the water and climb on top. There they were noticed by rescuers and was immediately taken to the amphibious assault the battleship USS Kearsarge.
The children’s father, who was also on Board, was less fortunate — man failed to save.
The incident occurred near the island of Viegas located near the East coast of Puerto Rico. A distress signal from the ship «Ferrel» arrived on Wednesday — just at the time when Mary came to the island. The U.S. Navy and great Britain immediately launched search operation, however, it did not give result.
Fortunately, the woman and her twelve-year-old children noticed the helicopter crew on their way to the island to help the population. Due to weather conditions, to rescue from under the vehicle man was not possible.
At the moment it is recognized as the only victims in Puerto Rico because of the hurricane that destroyed the island’s infrastructure. Authorities have not yet disclosed the names of the victims and information about where sailed the «Ferrel».
We only know that the woman was a native of the Dominican Republic, and her late husband British.
