Off the coast of San Diego there was a major oil leak

About 700 gallons of oil got into the Pacific ocean near the U.S. border and Mexico. The leak occurred due to a technical failure on Board the US Navy ship.

Missile destroyer Dewey, which leaked fuel, was 4 miles from Imperial beach, San Diego, and the mouth of the Tijuana river.

None of the crew members were not hurt during the failure, and subsequent oil spill was prevented.

The incident occurred on Wednesday. According to preliminary forecasts of the National oceanic and atmospheric administration, the fuel had to reach the coast on Thursday and could fall into the river in Tijuana. Fortunately, this has not happened yet — the stain is almost not changed its location. The Navy is closely monitoring the situation, and to avoid any harm to the environment near the mouth of the river set the boom barrier.

Residents of the areas of potential risk are advised to monitor the local authorities.

Vessel with a length of 510 feet left the naval base in Coronado on Wednesday night. Representatives of the Navy did not specify, what kind of tasks it performed in the Pacific ocean.
