It turns out, to run away to Mexico with a suitcase of money is not easy. Before Christmas, this idea failed for the 35-year-old woman. 20 December the border guards detained a motorist on suspicion of smuggling — she had $532 596 in cash. Authorities believe that the money was derived from illegal drug sales.

According to a press release from U.S. customs, the suspect stopped when she was driving the Jeep Cherokee on interstate 5 near Oceanside, San Diego. During the search of the vehicle agents found a suitcase with stacks of bills.

The money was seized, and their owner gave investigators from the Department of homeland security. The Agency did not specify the nationality of the arrested.

It is noteworthy that exactly one year before her capture, 20 December 2016, on the same highway 23-year-old man withdrew $290 thousand. The largest incident of this kind happened in August last year — then the border guards stopped two people who tried to smuggle more than $3 million on different machines.
