A frightened 11-year-old girl on December 15 forcibly seated to his car by an unknown man, was saved by concerned citizens of Queens. They also arrested the kidnapper.
About eight in the morning on Saturday Alex Salas decided to act when he saw a man in his forties (he was a registered sex offender of Reelin Stage), grabbed the screaming baby and shoved in a white Honda Civic on Center Street, near Seneca Avenue.
Salas was at home when I heard on the street children’s cry for help and saw in the window the scene of the abduction.
«I grabbed a bat and ran downstairs,» said the man. The rushed to help him and the landlord — Edwin Gonzalez.
«He ran outside in shorts and a t-shirt, recalls the 59-year-old Gonzalez. — I heard he shouted: “Let the girl go. Let the girl go!»» The homeowner also got into a fight, set in motion an oak cane.
As it turned out, the girl went to Saturday classes at Intermediate School 77, between Centre Street and Seneca Avenue, when the Stage stopped near her and offered a ride. The girl refused the man then ordered her to get into his car. Schoolgirl in panic tried to escape, but Estrada was driving her 4 quarters, and then blocked the road near the house of Salas.
The window of Salas saw how frightened child pushed in the back seat of the car. «He grabbed her book bag and knocked her down, waving over her with a bat… I would never not let him go,» says 45-year-old father of 2 children.
Telling his wife to call 911, the man ran outside with a bat. In a moment got to him and Gonzalez. «The girl was afraid for his life, says Salas. — We talked to [the Stage], so he distracted us from the little girl not to hit her».
When the police arrived, Estrada and Salas fought bits.
