January 23, in Norwalk (CA) a small child seriously wounded his mother with a shotgun, left in the back seat of the family car.

According to the Sheriff’s Department of Los Angeles, the incident happened on Wednesday around 15:30 in the 14600 block on the street Dinard Street opposite the preschool Ramona School. 30-year-old woman stopped the car to pick up their children from school. Her son found a loaded shotgun in the back seat of the car and shot him in the back of the driver’s seat. The fraction passed through the seat and injured the mother in the middle part of the body.

Another woman and a small child who sat in the front passenger seat, was not injured. Police confiscated the shotgun and is currently conducting an investigation to determine how the weapon was in the car and as a small child could use it.

According to a Sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez, three children who were in the saloon during the shooting, and the baby is shot from a shotgun, were handed over to the care of the Department of children and families County of Los Angeles while their mother is in the hospital.

After another unfortunate incident when a weapon was in the hands of a small child, the Sheriff’s Department reminded that gun owners are required to keep it secure and inaccessible to children or unauthorized persons.
