«A true child of the mountains of Kentucky»: disappeared from home on mother’s Day boy was found in an old mine 3 days later

The boy, who was only 22 months old, disappeared from his home in rural Kentucky, but was found unharmed in an old mine, somehow surviving one 3 days.

Police said in a tweet that Kenneth Howard was found around 14:00 in the County of Floyd in the old quarry. The boy was taken to hospital by helicopter for medical examination.

Photos of the rescue operation emerged later on Wednesday. They seen Kenneth, who sits in a diaper, surrounded by volunteers.
