Today, June 19th, 33-year-old Jorge Alberto Rios Doblado was charged with murder, aggravated rape and kidnapping of a 45-year-old Carolina Cano.
According to the Immigration police (ICE), Rios was deported from the U.S. to Honduras, the first in 2003 and then again in 2004. It is unknown how he managed to get back into the country.
On 24 March, about 5 a.m. a native of Peru, Carolina Cano, who worked as a babysitter, went out for a morning jog. According to a source in law enforcement, Rios was seen on the security cameras in the place where the woman’s body was found, and at about the same time when she was murdered.
«The man watched the victim and continued to follow her. Approaching the Park, the victim fled, and the man fled right behind her, — said in a statement about the arrest of Rios. — It is evident that the man continues to move to the South, stops, turns to look at the victim and then runs in the same direction as the victim.»
Rios was seen coming out of the Park in about an hour. Then he was on his way to his friend.
«How much do you think will get people for murder?» he asked, supposedly as a joke his friend, according to court documents.
Neighbor Rios said he often saw a man in a state of alcoholic intoxication.

The medical examiner ruled that Kano died «as a result of killing, including strangulation or immersion in water.» According to the Prosecutor of Hudson County Esther Suarez, Rios have no criminal record.
If Rios is convicted of the charges against him, he will have to serve a prison term of up to a possible third deportation. It can go to jail for 30 years or sentenced to life imprisonment.
