Seven-year-old received at Christmas a heavy bullet wound in the abdomen. According to Chicago police, the child was shot when he was in the living room of an apartment house (block 3500) in South Wastin Avenue in Brighton Park on the southwest of Chicago.
About 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on the street, shots rang out. The police believes that the real shooter was 38-year-old man who was wounded in the leg. Another stray bullet flew through the window of the house, punched the sofa and hit the child in the stomach.
On the scene arrived physicians and police. The paramedic carried the girl in his arms and carried her to the ambulance. Two men and a woman followed him. The child was taken to the hospital Stroger. The girl’s condition doctors estimate as critical.

At the same time to the house where was shot the girl, came a crisis representative Andrew Holmes. On Wednesday morning, he spoke to the relatives of the child victim. The girl, who lives in suburban Hanover Park, was visiting relatives at the home of Brighton Park. According to representatives of her family, for a few minutes before the shots rang out, the girl was playing with her two younger cousins in front of the sofa in the living room, while her aunt and uncle were sitting at the dining table, eating and talking.
Police said the man wounded in the result of the same shooting, was sent for treatment to the hospital of St. Anthony. His condition stabilized, and he is likely to be transferred to Mount Sinai hospital.
Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot expressed concern over the incident and urged the public to provide any information that can help the Chicago police to find the culprit. Lightfoot also called on his city to pray for the recovery of the wounded girls.

Police reported that shots were fired from the sidewalk, the bullet went through the glass window in the house where he was family dinner. The window, which is noticeable bullet hole decorated with festive message: «merry Christmas» and a picture of the Christmas tree.

On Christmas morning, Holmes had examined the area in search of evidence or witnesses that could help the police to arrest the shooter. District police detectives were investigating.
«I don’t want to celebrate Christmas tonight,’ said Holmes. I want to help this family. Christmas this child has turned into a disaster. I hope we will be able to find the person who was shot. This will be the «Christmas» for me and for this family.»
Shooting at South Wastin Avenue was not the only one in Chicago at the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
