According to authorities, on Saturday was found alive two scientists at the age of 70 years, who disappeared from a rented cottage in Northern California over a week ago.
County Sheriff’s Department Marin said 77-year-old Carol Kiparsky and 72-year-old Yana Irwin’s helicopter found the team in a wooded area near Bay Tomales. According to the authorities, they were conscious but severely dehydrated, when they were taken to the hospital.
«It’s a miracle!», said the Sergeant Brenton Schneider at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
According to Schneider, a pair of scientists from Palo Alto were «avid travelers» that frequented the area to the North of the national seashore of point Reyes. According to him, they knew the local trails, but somehow got lost when it come dark while walking on Valentine’s Day.
«They found a puddle nearby and drink this water to survive,»he said.
The authorities were concerned that Kiparsky and Irwin has not left from his suburban home in Inverness on the weekend of February 15. In the following days, Sheriff’s departments launched a massive search. To their aid came hundreds of volunteers, said Schneider.
On Saturday, rescuers said they heard cries for help. According to Schneider, the pair were pulled from the bushes so thick that rescuers had to crawl on his belly.
Lifeguard Quincy Webster was a search dog when he heard the cries of the scientists.
«They shouted «Thank God you found us, we are so happy!»», he said.
Salvation came to him just in time.
According to Schneider, the two scientists were in light clothing, no jackets, and no food or water. Authorities were afraid that they will not survive the cold.
«Over the past three days the temperature has decreased significantly, ‘said Schneider. — It does not increase the chances of their survival».
