According to the Chicago Police Department, a customer stabbed a store employee 27 times while her sister held him by the hair after the girls were asked to put on masks.

Police spokeswoman Carey James told the Chicago Sun-Times that the attack occurred around 6:00 pm at a store on the West Side. Its name was not disclosed.

The attackers, 21-year-old Jessica Hill and 18-year-old Jaila Hill, got into a skirmish with a 32-year-old security guard who met them at the entrance, allegedly asking them to put on face masks and use hand sanitizer.

At some point, the situation escalated: one of the women punched the worker in the chest and threw a trash can at him, after which Jessica pulled out a knife and a back pocket and began stabbing the man while Jayla was holding his hair.

James told the Sun-Times that the guard was stabbed in the chest, back and arms — but, despite the injuries, was able to hold the attackers in the store until the police arrived. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is now in critical condition.

Both women were arrested at the scene. Each of them is charged with attempted murder.
