The NYPD is looking for a gunman who injured 10 people. Five of them were hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Another 13 were injured due to the ensuing panic and suffered from smoke inhalation. All the wounded are reported to survive. According to police, the unknown person acted alone and quickly left the crime scene. His actions do not qualify as a terrorist act.

According to authorities, the attacker is an African-American man with a strong build and a height of 165 cm. He was wearing an orange vest, like that of construction workers, a gray jumper, a green helmet and a protective gas mask. According to the Commissioner of the New York Police Department, Kichant Sivell, when approaching the station, the criminal took two smoke bombs from his bag and used them. Then he opened fire with a Glock pistol, found at the scene along with empty clips, a can of gasoline, an ax and fireworks.

According to eyewitnesses of the incident, during the attack, panic and crush began in the carriage. People tried to break into neighboring carriages, but the doors to one of them were closed. Before arriving at the station, the train stopped for a few minutes because another train was standing in front of it. The area around 36th Street and the nearby subway station was cordoned off. The FBI, police and other intelligence agencies were on the scene. In the early hours, there were reports of alleged unexploded shells in Brooklyn, but police never found any explosive devices.
Local authorities are asking people to be vigilant and report any details that may help in catching the suspect. A key to a van rented in Philadelphia was found at the crime scene. The U-Haul vehicle was later found in Brooklyn, but the perpetrator was not with it. It is believed that he may be 62-year-old Frank James. At the moment, the motives for his actions and his whereabouts remain unknown.
