Texas has enacted a law on swords

Today the phrase «everything was bigger in Texas» will become more literal. Just imagine the Wild West, where revolvers are of the blades, and immediately understand everything.

On Friday, 1 September 2017, residents of the Lone star state are allowed to carry blades longer than 5.5 inches in public places.

Texas has enacted a law on swords

This means that anyone in Texas can now openly wear such a cold weapon, like the famous Bowie knife (cleaver impressive size, and the ease of which the tip is made bevel-shaped concave arc), as well as daggers, Dirks, throwing knives, stilettos, daggers with a triangular blade, swords, machetes and spears.

The new law, titled HB 1935, was presented by a member of the house of representatives of Texas, John Frullo this year, but has been criticized after one student of the University of Texas was killed and three others were wounded during the attack, which weapon the attacker had a hunting knife.

As a compromise, the law HB 1935 was passed after there was added a clause stating that the number of places where you can appear with machetes, is limited.

Thus, despite the fact that residents of Texas are allowed to walk the streets with a sword on the belt, is illegal to bring your sharp toys in following places:

  • bars and restaurants
  • educational institutions (schools and universities),
  • polling stations
  • airports
  • the racecourses
  • sports events of different levels (the exception is if the gun owner – participant, and the blade is a sports projectile),
  • correctional institution,
  • hospitals, nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals,
  • amusement parks,
  • churches, synagogues or other places of worship.

In addition, people aged up to 18 years old are not allowed to carry bladed weapons if they are not under the direct control of a parent or guardian.

Violation of the law can lead to allegations of a crime of the third degree, which threatens with imprisonment for the term up to 10 years and a fine in the amount up to $ 10,000.
