Business cards for the NYPD will cost taxpayers $ 6 million

The city Council plans to introduce for the employees of the NYPD special business cards. Officers will give them to the people they want to question. This initiative will cost taxpayers 6 billion dollars in the first year after its introduction.

By law, the cards must show the name of the policeman, his position and badge number, along with instructions how to invoke the law in case of necessity and leave a comment about their work.

The card is part of the Law on the right to information, which the Council adopted Tuesday, and is going to sign the mayor De Blasio.

The press-Secretary of the Board stated that the costs for the first year will be able to provide each of the 36 000 police officers in the NYPD at least one box for 1000 cards: enough for three stops a day.

Sergeant NYPD and ed Mullins , called the initiative «a terrible waste of taxpayers ‘money».
